MEIKLE TÒIR 2024 EDITION OF THE TURBO

Award-winning Speyside peated single malt brand reveals this year’s edition of sought-after limited release.

 

• The annual outturn of peated new make spirit amounts to around 100,000 Litres of Alcohol (LOA): roughly a tenth of the distillery’s total output.
• Following extraordinary demand for its previous iteration, The Turbo 2024 Edition (50% ABV, UK RRSP £55.99) is a marriage of five American virgin oak casks and four Oloroso hogsheads, producing just 2,200 bottles.
• The product name, coined by Walker, is intended to reflect the intense smoke character achieved by capturing the spirit cut with the highest phenol level during distillation.
• The phenolic content of the spirit at the point of bottling was an impressive 70 Parts per Million (PPM), balanced with “waves of toasted nuts, salted caramel and dark chocolate truffles” delivered by five years in the rich casks.
• To create Meikle Tòir, The GlenAllachie used mainland peat from St. Fergus to contribute a sweeter smoke flavour in comparison to island peat.
• The whisky also underwent an extended fermentation period of 160 hours—part of Walker’s adaptations implemented when he took ownership—to develop a complex and flavourful distillate rich in esters.

 

TASTING NOTES

• Nose: Smoked blood orange, cinnamon spice and manuka honey, with bursts of rich dark chocolate and roasted hazelnuts.
• Taste: Worn leather, baking spices and cigar box, followed by honey, hazelnuts and dried red berries, with burnt orange peel and salted caramel.

A 41yo Miltonduff to mark the bicentenary of the Scotch Whisky industry. Miltonduff was one of the distilleries working legally on Speyside in 1824. It’s the oldest expression I have ever tried from this distillery.
Lochside was in Montrose and produced malt and grain whisky. This cask was blended at new make before being filled into an amazing ex-sherry cask, a practice that is no longer allowed, a single blend as old as this is a true rarity.

Nikka Blended Whiskies From 9 Different Decades for Its New Ultra-Limited Release

 

Japan’s second biggest whisky company, Nikka, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. So to commemorate the occasion, they just announced the details of an extremely limited-edition blended whisky that includes liquid that was distilled over the past nine decades, including 80-year-old single malt that dates back to the 1940s.

The liquid in this high-end world blend was distilled over the course of nearly a century, from the 1940s to the 2020s, at Nikka’s six distilleries (including Ben Nevis). There are more than 50 batches of whisky in the blend, including the oldest whiskies from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, new grain whiskies from Moji and Satsumastukas, and older grain whisky from Nishinomiya.

The Nikka Nine Decades is bottled at 48 percent ABV.

The first batch of 2000 bottles (1000 for Japan, 1000 for overseas markets) went on sale on July 2nd, and the next batch of 2000 bottles with the same breakdown will be available in October. The primary channel price is 300,000 yen for 700ml.

Amazing FOB Exclusive!!!!!!

We want to gauge the interest in a very, very special opportunity for group members.

We have been speaking to the distillery for the past 3 years about doing something unique for the FOB group. And Bruichladdich have come back to us with something so unique and special that we were over the moon about it.

BUT, BUT, BUT.......

There are almost 2,000 bottles that need to be purchased and that is no small feat, even though we are close to reaching 12,000 members.

This would be a massive task at hand, so the only solution is that we have to sell these bottles as a case of 6, we just couldn't manage any other way.

This means that we need 300 people to commit to purchasing a case of these bottles. Unfortunately for now, we cannot reveal what it is, but let's just say that it is a something really exciting.

The cost will be less than £100 per bottle and we would hope to do better on that, but we can't give any information or assurances until we know for sure.

We realise that this is a big ask and we are asking people to make a decision on very little information. But this will be a first in so many ways.

What are people's thoughts in this?

Is it something that might interest members?

Is it possible?

Please let us know as we would like to gauge interest before we go to far down the track. Myself and Derek are really excited by this, but the numbers involved also scares us. But we so want this to happen

Τελικά στα παλιά Bowmore δεν ήταν μόνο καλύτερο το περιεχόμενο, αλλά και η εμφάνιση. Θυμάμαι την καλλιτεχνική γραφή, το logo με τους γλάρους, τα θαυμάσια διάφανα μπουκάλια η εκείνα με τις ζωγραφιές....

Και τώρα τι βλέπουμε; Μια απλή -ασχημη- μαυρη ετικέτα, λες και είναι το κρασί του Μπάρμπα Μήτσου από το Μαρκόπουλο.....
