Price -The Sweet Toast of American Oak RRP GBP45 (US$57), The Week of Peat RRP GBP65 and A Day of Dark Barley RRP GBP600

William Grant & Sons has launched a range of whiskies from The Balvenie Scotch whisky distillery, inspired by stories from the facility in Dufftown, Scotland.

The Stories range comprises: The Sweet Toast of American Oak, 43% abv and aged 12 years, The Week of Peat, 48.3% abv and aged 14 years and A Day of Dark Barley, 47.8% abv and aged 26 years.

Consumers can listen to audio conversations about each whisky, as well as guided tastings, via an NFC-enabled neck tag.

The audio features conversations between distillery staff and brand ambassador Gemma Paterson at locations in each tale, including The Balvenie distillery and Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky, where apprentice malt master Kelsey McKechnie sourced virgin oak barrels for The Sweet Toast of American Oak.

The Balvenie will also publish an accompanying book 'Pursuit – The Balvenie Stories Collection', a curated collection of short tales by writers from around the world.

"The Balvenie Stories collection tells these tales in liquid form, giving whisky drinkers across the globe a special glimpse into the unique and very human nature of how we produce our whisky," said The Balvenie malt master David Stewart MBE. "Each expression in the collection reflects this by telling its own story via first-hand accounts and recollections of the many people involved."

Ireland's Sliabh Liag Distillers has launched a gin and a whiskey in the UK.

An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin and Silkie blended Irish whiskey will roll out in online spirits retailers in the UK following their initial launch in Ireland. The 42%-abv gin is on sale for GBP32.99 (US$42) for 50cl while the whiskey is the same price for a 70cl bottle.

Speaking about the gin, Donegal-based Sliabh Liag said it is made with five seaweed botanicals from the Atlantic Ocean and is produced in a single shot London dry-style distillation.

Sliabh Liag distiller Moira Doherty said: "The British gin drinker really knows their stuff and has a very wise palate so we're confident they'll appreciate the huge amount of consideration that has gone into crafting An Dúlamán."

The Silkie Irish whiskey, meanwhile, is made from malt and grain whiskeys including malts aged up to eight years. The expression is named after the mythical seals that transform into beautiful women when ashore on Donegal's beaches.

"We've worked hard to create a blended Irish whiskey that is rich, soft and very easy-drinking," said MD James Doherty.

Beam Suntory has launched a Basil Hayden Bourbon that is blended with rum from the company's Cruzan brand. Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye is made from two rye whiskies finished with Cruzan's Black Strap Rum.

Beam Suntory said the "unique" blend, which will be available across the US, pushes category boundaries for whiskey drinkers.

"With the release of Caribbean Reserve Rye, we wanted to give our fans a fun whiskey expression that you can bring out and share during warmer weather occasions," said Rob Mason, VP of marketing for Beam Suntory's whiskey operations.

The rye whiskies used in the blend are an eight-year-old Kentucky straight rye whiskey and a four-year-old Canadian rye whisky. Caribbean Reserve is a limited-time release, although Beam Suntory did not specify when it will be removed from shelves.

Category - Spirits, whiskey, Irish

Available - From July

Location - Available from the Dublin Liberties distillery as well as in France and Australia later this year

Price - SRP of EUR36 (US$40) per 70cl bottle

Quintessential Brands has lined up the launch of The Dubliner Whiskey Beer Cask series, a limited edition, three-strong range of whiskies created in partnership with three craft brewers in the country. The concept comprises three expressions, all of which contain The Dubliner Irish whiskey that has spent time in whiskey casks previously used to house three different beers.

The range is headed up by Just Good Whiskey, The Dubliner three-year-old blend with Rascals Brewing Co's Coffee Stout. Two further iterations involve tie-ups with O'Hara's Irish Stout and Five Lamps Pale Ale.

"Irish craft beer has many fans and our hope is to capture some of this appeal," said Cliodhna Barlow, global brand director for Irish whiskey at the Dublin Liberties Distillery. "Not only have we partnered with breweries whose beer casks add a unique taste to our whiskey, but ones that have the same independent spirit as The Dubliner Irish Whiskey.

The range will be available in limited - albeit unspecified - numbers from the distillery ahead of a roll-out to Ireland, France and Australia, as well as being released in the Global Travel Retail channel.

Quintessential officially opened the Liberties Distillery in Dublin earlier this year, with the help of investment from vodka producer Stock Spirits.

Bottled-in-Bond is a legal definition of liquid that hails from one distilling season and one distillery, has been aged in a federally-bonded warehouse for at least four years and is bottled at 100 proof.

"At a time when American Whiskey is surging, we are proud to release a namesake product that really brings us back to our company's founding," said Heaven Hill president Max Shapira.
