Mallios, εγώ πάλι δεν την βλέπω τη στροφή. Είναι πολύ νωρίς ακόμα για κάτι τέτοιο άν ποτέ γίνει. Ίσα ίσα που αυτή την εποχή ζούμε την αρχή της καθιέρωσης των NAS, τα οποία θα συμβαδίζουν με τα AS για πολύ καιρό.

Και με την ευκαιρία να δούμε και τα νέα πειράματα του Glenfiddich

Μετά την επιτυχία που είχε το λανσάρισμα του Snow Phoenix πριν λίγα χρόνια (θυμάστε, είναι η περίπτωση εμφιάλωσης από τα βαρέλια εκείνα σε μια παλιά ξεχασμένη αποθήκη που έπεσε η οροφή και μπήκε μέσα ντούρος ο χιονιάς....), το αποστακτήριο αποφάσισε να δει τα πράγματα με άλλο μάτι και έχει ξεκινήσει μια σειρά πειραμάτων σε διάφορα στάδια της παραγωγής, που θα δώσουν καρπούς (άν αυτοί το αξίζουν) κυρίως στο απώτερο μέλλον. 

Προς το παρόν όμως, για να μας προετοιμάσει και να μας ιντριγκάρει, βγάζει 2 βραχυπρόθεσμα projects στο προσκήνιο.το IPA και το ΧΧ

Το μεν ΙΡΑ experiment είναι μια "αντιγραφή" του 'Jameson caskmates' σε μορφή single malt, δηλαδή μιλάμε για finishing σε βαρέλια που είχαν μπύρα, και πιο συγκεκριμένα India Pale Ale από το Speyside Craft Brewery στο κοντινό Forres. 

"The ale was created using British Challenger hops for its fruity flavours, which Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman said complemented the whisky’s existing fruity character.The result is a liquid with a zesty citrus note followed by soft, sweet vanilla and a hint of fresh hops. The innovative flavour comes from carefully hand-selecting the right malt whiskies to complement the extra hoppy notes"

Το δε ΧΧ (λατινικό '20'), προκύπτει από την ανάμιξη 20 διαφορετικών βαρελιών, το καθένα διαλεγμένο από καθέναν εκ των 20 Global Ambassadors, τόσο απλά.

"Kinsman asked each ambassador to select a cask that best represented their personality from Glenfiddich’s warehouses, before blending them together to create the brand’s first mass collaborated whisky. Also NAS, the expression is non-chill-filtered and bottled at 47% abv – traits that contribute to a ‘challenging flavour’ that Kinsman said would appeal more to the whisky connoisseur."

Το Chivas Regal θα το βρίσκουμε πλέον σε 2 νέες μορφές.

1. 'Extra' (βρίσκεται εδώ και καιρό στην αγορά, θα το έχετε δει ακόμα και σε supermarkets)

Πρόκειται για μια αλλοτροπική έκδοση του γνωστού μας blend Chivas Regal 12yo, χωρίς ηλικιακή επισήμανση, με έμφαση στο οτι στο μίγμα χρησιμοποιούνται ουίσκυ που έχουν ωριμάσει σε oloroso sherry casks. Με λίγα λόγια 'νασιά' του κερατά, με πιασάρικο όνομα, για τους οπαδούς της φίρμας που θέλουν να γευτούν κάτι διαφορετικό, κάτι 'καλύτερο' από το 12άρι, αλλά δεν θέλουν να ξεφύγουν οικονομικά στα επίπεδα του 18 ετών. 

2. 'Ultis'

Εδώ έχουμε να κάνουμε με ένα blended malt, το 1ο στην ιστορία της φίρμας. Και αυτό είναι NAS, και αποτελείται από 5 single malts, προερχόμενα από τα αποστακτήρια της εταιρίας (Pernod Ricard). Strathisla φυσικά,(η ναυαρχίδα του Chivas), Tormore, Braeval, Longmorn και Allt a' Bhainne.

Μια παρατήρηση σχετικά με το I PAPADOGIANNIS experiment δεν θα έλεγα ότι είναι αντιγραφή του  jameson μια και η William Grant είχε λανσαρει το Grants ale cask πολύ πιο πρώτα

Το οποιο , ειδικά το δεύτερο, για λογους που δεν μπορω να καταλαβω δεδομένης και της ας πουμε καλης μεν αλλα οχι σημαντικής αξιολόγησης του, ξεπουλάει γρήγορα και σε κάποια καταστήματα ήδη εχουν διπλασιασει την τιμη του. Είναι φορές που όσο κι αν ασχολούμαι δεν καταλαβαίνω κάποια πράγματα.

ίσως γιατί μερικοί νομίζουν ότι είναι 20 ετών. Η χρήση XX στην ετικέτα είναι  λίγο παραπλανητική

Box Distillery has released its first single malt whisky into the Swedish spirits company's domestic market. Dálvve means 'winter' in the dialect of the Nordic Sami people.

The whisky launched domestically this week, with a wider roll-out set for next year. Export markets will include France, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Norway, the UK, Taiwan and the US.
The liquid, which forms the first bottling in Box Distillery's core range, has been matured for five years in ex-Bourbon casks.

Late last year, Diageo used its incubator fund vehicle, Distill Ventures, to spend US$15m on Denmark's Stauning Whisky. The Danish company is using the investment to up its capacity and remains an independent entity within Diageo.

Ever since November 2010, when we distilled the very first drops here at Box, it's been our goal to develop storage opportunities for a future standard product, primarily stored in large, classic bourbon casks. We've carefully monitored the maturation of these casks and been impressed with how well they've developed. Our storage conditions, with huge temperature differences over the year, ice-cold winters and warm, sunny summers, account for a lot of the intensively positive results of the process. This is why we can already proudly introduce the whisky world to Dàlvve – Box Distillery's first edition of the future core range.

Dàlvve is the Sami word for 'winter'. The Nordic winters are an important part of our distillery's unique character, so what could be more suitable than to borrow the name for our first 'standard whisky' from the indigenous Nordic culture that throughout the ages has lived here in perfect harmony with the passing seasons and nature?

Box Distillery is one of the world's northernmost distilleries, directly intersected by the 63rd latitude, one day's car ride from the Arctic Circle. As early as October, temperatures can fall way below zero and the winter months are often ice-cold with heavy coverings of snow. Dusk and darkness come early and the northern lights illumine the meter-thick ice on the river outside. This environment is unique to Box and it affects our whisky in a number of ways. The river's ice cold cooling water produces a true world class distillate and the hot summers, cold winters and temperature variations enhance the whisky's flavour by pressing it back and forth through the oak as it patiently waits in the warehouses. This is what gives our whisky its character. And of course this holds true, in every way, for Dàlvve.

Box Dàlvve will be bottled in 70cl bottles and be available from November 2016 with different batch numbers. The demand from international markets is substantial and Dàlvve will be available worldwide from its launch. Box Dàlvve will have an alcohol level of 46% and a recommended consumer price of approximately €55.

Scottish company Fusion Whisky has released a whisky that mixes Scotch with Indian single malt. The Kincardine is named after Scottish politician Victor Bruce, the ninth Earl of Elgin and 13th Earl of Kincardine, who served as Viceroy and Governor General of India between 1894 and 1899.

The liquid is a blend of Scotch produced at Scotland's Glen Elgin and Macallan distilleries, and single malt whisky from the Amrut distillery in Bangalore. 

This latest release follows The Glover, a series of whiskies rolled out last year, comprising a blend of Scotch with Japanese whisky.

Privately-owned Fusion Whisky is headed up by former Diageo executive David Moore, Scottish parliamentary adviser Jim Millar and corporate financier Graham Langley.

The team that created a pioneering blend of Scotch and Japanese whisky is launching a whisky to celebrate the historic ties between India and Scotland and honour the Scot who helped modernize India's railways and link the cities of Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Madras and Karachi by rail.
 
Edinburgh-based Fusion Whisky Limited launched The Glover series of premium whiskies last year in honour of "Scottish Samurai" Thomas Blake Glover. Made by blending Scotch with extremely rare whisky from Japan, The Glover pioneered the concept of fusing malt whiskies from international distilleries.
 
Now the company is launching The Kincardine brand to celebrate the historic ties between India and Scotland and honour the life of Victor Bruce, the 9th Earl of Elgin and 13th Earl of Kincardine, who served as Viceroy and Governor General of India between 1894-99. 
 
Victor Bruce was a Scottish liberal politician who distinguished himself both in Britain and in India. Among his achievements as Viceroy of India, he pushed through massive improvements to India's rail system, helped secure its economy by stabilizing the rupee, pacified its volatile border with Afghanistan, and sought to alleviate the worst effects of drought and famine through a pioneering work-relief programme. A keen walker, Victor Bruce was nicknamed the "Walking Viceroy".
 
This latest whisky is a fusion from Glen Elgin and Macallan distilleries in Scotland and single malt whisky from India's celebrated Amrut distillery in Bangalore. 
 
The Kincardine whisky was blended by Victor's great-grandson Alex Bruce, master blender and managing director of Adelphi Distillery, based in Fife. 
 
He said: "With The Kincardine, we've blended two single casks of malt whisky from Amrut Distillery in Bangalore with Scotch whisky from Glen Elgin and Macallan distilleries. The fruitiness of the mature Speyside malts works beautifully with the Indian whisky, creating a very complex, international flavour. It has its own unique profile, showing both the individual elements that different maturation climates can offer and, at the same time, capturing a new overall style. I was really excited by both the challenge and the outcome.
 
He added: "It was a genuine privilege to create this whisky in honour of my great-grandfather, and great to develop a product that it is an example of the strong, positive and long-lasting relations between Scotland and India."
 
Only 800 bottles of the whisky will be released, although Fusion Whisky said there was scope to produce more variants of both The Kincardine and The Glover in the future. 
 
David Moore, a Director of Fusion Whisky, said: "The concept of using fusion whisky to celebrate the historic ties between Scotland and so many countries around the globe is something we pioneered with The Glover. This innovation was so successful – selling out almost immediately and exporting to 15 countries – it was always our ambition to create another fusion whisky. 
 
"With Alex's personal connections to Amrut distillery, as well as the story of his great-grandfather, it was clear we had an excellent opportunity to create another unique and ground-breaking whisky." 
 
Mr Moore said the company's new approach to blending whisky tapped into a growing international demand for new and innovative whiskies, adding that the company had recently secured the welcome support of Scottish Development International to help them expand the business.
 
Distilled at Glen Elgin and Macallan in the Speyside region of Scotland, and Amrut from Bangalore, India, this fusion is an intriguing combination of Indian subcontinent and Scottish maturation climates.

Irish whiskey distillery Walsh Whiskey has launched new cask strength 2016 vintages of its The Irishman and Writers' Tears brands.

Only 1,800 bottles of The Irishman and 2,640 bottles of Writers Tears' will be released worldwide. The Irishman is available in 11 countries and Writers' Tears in eight.

• The Irishman Cask Strength 2016 - 54% abv

A vatting of single pot still & single malt, matured in first-fill Bourbon casks. Non chill-filtered, it was bottled in September and is presented in a wood cask.

• Writers' Tears Cask Strength 2016 - 53% abv

A triple-distilled blend of aged single pot still and single malt whiskey. It is non chill-filtered and aged in Bourbon barrels. It was also bottled in September.

Ρίγος συγκίνησης διαπερνά τους απανταχού θαυμαστές του House of Bruichladdich (??!! House of? ακόμα μια ενδιαφέρουσα αλλαγή αρκεί να δούμε τι εννοούν οι ποιητές -  η πιο ενδιαφέρουσα αλλαγή είναι ότι πλέον με τον κωδικό που αναγράφεται στο μπουκάλι μπορείς να μπεις στο Laddie και να δεις τι ακριβώς περιέχει το whisky που πίνεις, ακόμα και το cask marrying / blending πείτε το όπως θέλετε). Και φυσικά μετά το Laddie 8 έχουμε επιστροφή (ξανά) ηλικίας.

Θυμάμαι παλιότερα που στην κατηγορία των blended scotch υπήρχαν κάποιες στάνταρ μάρκες που, αθόρυβα και με σεβασμό προς τον καταναλωτή, έβγαζαν κάποιες εκδόσεις των blends τους σε αλλοτροπική μορφή, προσφέροντας μια έξτρα ποικιλία για τους λάτρεις της φίρμας τους, αλλά και γενικότερα για όλο το ουισκόβιο κοινό. Και μιλάμε για κάποιες πολύ επιτυχημένες παραλλαγές, όπως το Bell's "Islander" (με έξτρα ποσοστό νησιώτικων malts) ή το Teacher's "60" (με 60% αλκοόλ).

Κάποια στιγμή αυτές οι κινήσεις σταμάτησαν, ώσπου ο γίγαντας του blended scotch whisky marketing ξύπνησε για τα καλά και άρχισε να ντύνει την πέρδικα μαύρη (Black Grouse), να την παγώνει (Snow Grouse) ή να την ....γδύνει (Naked Grouse). E, αυτό ήταν! Αμέσως ο Γιάννης ο περιπατητής μαύρισε 2 φορές από το κακό του (JW Double Black), το ξακουστό ιστιοφόρο που πλέον είναι μουσείο στον Τάμεση θυμήθηκε την εποχή της ποτοαπαγόρευσης (Cutty Sark "Prohibition"), και o Σίβας ο ιππότης του Speyside φόρεσε την βαριά του σιδερένια πανοπλία και ύψωσε το σπαθί (Chivas Regal "Extra" - really? δεν μπορούσατε να σκεφτείτε κάτι πιο "καλό" από το ξερό "extra"? Tί είστε; κανα απορρυπαντικό για τα πιάτα ή πάνες για μωρά;;;;).

Ο πάντα δραστήριος ΓΠ δεν πτοήθηκε, και βλέποντας άλλη μια φορά την παρακάτω επική σκηνή από τη Λάμψη (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081505/)

 

του ήρθε μια ιδέα στο μυαλό !

 

 

 

E, μετά από όλα αυτά, ξύπνησε κι ο Βαλεντίνος από το Dumbarton...

Cadenhead small batch βγήκε και σε λίγο θα βγει και η  Authentic.

Το πρώτο είχε Glen Mhor του 82 αλλά εξάντληθήκε , Glenrothes tou 89 και Bruichladdich 24yo.

Το δεύτερο υποθετικα έχει Highland Park 28yo port cask , Caperdonich kai Carsebridge 40yo.

Laphroaig Four Oak is now available globally from travel retail outlets in one-litre bottles, priced at around €55. With an abv of 40%, the peated single malt has been aged in four different casks: ex-Bourbon barrels, quarter casks, virgin American oak barrels and European oak hogsheads.

The second release, Laphroaig 1815 Legacy Edition, will be launched in April in 70cl bottles costing approximately €104.

Created by Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell in tribute to past distillery managers, the whisky has been matured in first-fill, ex-Bourbon barrels and European oak hogsheads. It is bottled at 48% abv.

Michael Cockram, global marketing director, travel retail, at Beam Suntory, which owns Laphroaig, said: ‘Peated malts are having their moment in the spotlight, currently leading growth globally in the total malt category.

‘We are launching these two exceptional new products exclusively in global travel retail to meet this demand.’
