The Macallan Estate has announced a new theatrical and musical experience.

 

The Macallan Reflections on The River Spey shares vignettes of life at The Macallan Estate from centuries past, interweaving enchanting tales from The Macallan’s pioneering figures with music and enlightening conversation from one of Scotland’s most acclaimed classical guitarists, Matthew McAllister.

Matthew, who is from Glasgow and holds the post of Classical Guitar Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, has been delighting audiences around the world with his insightful performances in a concert career spanning more than 20 years.

 

He is a highly accomplished musician with 10 critically acclaimed albums to his name, and has toured extensively throughout north and south America, Europe and Asia, both as a soloist and a chamber musician. Unfolding on the banks of the River Spey, this exclusive performance follows the inspiring life and times of Roderick Kemp, who took over The Macallan Distillery in 1892.

 

Theatre-goers can also delve into the real-life story of former managing director, Janet Harbinson, who was known as ‘Nettie’ and inspired The Spirit of 1926, The Macallan’s first biopic, which was released in November 2022.

 

This experience is written by actress and voice artist Debora Weston, whose film credits include Patriot Games, Thunderbirds, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The performance takes place within The Macallan’s open-sided marquee on the banks of the River Spey. Guests can enjoy select drams of The Macallan during the two-hour performance.

 

Guitarist Matthew McAllister said: “The Macallan Estate is truly a location like no other. The tranquil hills of Speyside have inspired me to curate the musical score for The Macallan Reflections on The River Spey, which pays tribute to bygone days in this beautiful part of Scotland.”

 

Stuart Cassells, General Manager at The Macallan Estate said: “The Macallan Reflections on The River Spey is an exciting new event in our calendar, marrying the tales of quiet heroism and pioneering spirit for which The Macallan is renowned, with music and storytelling by the incredibly talented Matthew McAllister.”

 

The Macallan Reflections on The River Spey is priced at £100 per guest and is available to book on select dates from 12 - 26 August 2023.

Laphroaig unveils packaging redesign in line with long-term sustainability goals   

The new packaging will reduce CO2 emissions by 30%

World-renowned Scotch whisky Laphroaig® today unveiled a refreshed, more sustainable design to its iconic packaging in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of each bottle. The new packaging will reduce the brand’s carbon emissions by 30%, and supports Beam Suntory’s Proof Positive sustainability strategy and long-term commitments to achieve net zero carbon emissions across its value chain by 2040.  

The new packaging design retains the recognisable green bottle with distinctive black and white label but replaces the plastic bar top with a beech wood alternative, as well as switching out the secondary packaging tube for a more recycling-friendly carton. The new packaging will result in a reduction of 1,184.74 tons of greenhouse gases per year – equivalent to growing 30,711 saplings over ten years – a significant contribution to the overall reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The new carton will also introduce additional quality cues on pack, including embossed Laphroaig lettering on the side as a nod to the brand’s Islay distillery. Further inspiration came from the brand archive, resulting in a refreshed wordmark and the hand-crafted distillery address on the front of pack.  

“The Laphroaig distillery has been making whisky for over 200 years, and it is fundamentally important we take steps to reduce our environmental impact and protect the natural resources we rely upon,” said Chris Richardson, VP Global Scotch & Irish Brands, Beam Suntory.  “This new packaging is a good step forward in our global sustainability ambitions, while still maintaining Laphroaig’s true character and exceptionally high quality.”

In addition to its new packaging, Laphroaig will also be renaming ‘Select’ to ‘Oak Select’ to reflect the role of casks in the flavour profile of the whisky. Oak Select will continue to be comprised of spirit taken from five different types of oak cask that are then blended to create the final expression.  There will be no change to the whisky itself.

The Glenrothes redesign

The Glenrothes seems to be introducing a new bottle presentation. For now only the Glenrothes 18 Years and Glenrothes 25 Years have been unveiled, but it wouldn’t surprise us if this style is taken further down into the range.

In fact if you have a look at their website, the range has been decimated. The 18 Year Old is now effectively the youngest in the range. We wonder where this will lead to…

The new presentation features transparent labels that showcase the (now natural?) colour of the whisky. There is also a coloured tube etched with the contours of the Glenrothes estate.

Διαβάζω και ξαναδιαβάζω το σχόλιό σου και ενώ δεν διαφωνώ κάπου, δεν καταλαβαίνω γιατί τα γράφεις όλα αυτά και από πού προκύπτει το συνωμοσιολογικό ύφος μου.
