Sweden's Mackmyra Svensk Whisky has announced its plans to list on the stock market later this year, adding that it is now looking for a CFO to help accomplish the task.

"Distillery construction is going really well and we expect production to get underway this year. The construction is already higher than the treetops," Mackmyra founder and CEO Magnus Dandanell said in a statement on Sunday.

The company produced Sweden's first malt whisky 13 years ago in Valbo about 10 kilometres southwest of Gävle in eastern Sweden.

The company was established in 1999 and now produces the equivalent of 600,000 flasks of whisky each year.

The first years were devoted to small batches and many experiments to find the perfect Swedish malt whisky. By 2001, the brand had perfected two recipes: one elegant and fruity, the other with a distinctively Swedish smokiness.

Both are sold in Systembolaget, as well as duty-free shops and selected overseas markets.

"With the new distillery in operation, we will more than triple our production capacity, which is needed to launch our products outside the Nordic countries," said Dandanell

"In parallel, we have begun work on a project to finance the operation and construction of maturity stock volumes as needed."

Mackmyra currently offers innovative whiskey experiences through its award-winning Brukswhisky, the intimate Gravity Cask and its adventurous Mackmyra Whisky Tastings.

These take place at Fjäderholmarna off the coast of Nacka and Djurgården in Stockholm, Gävle, Gothenburg, Häckeberga Slott in Lund in southern Sweden, Karlstad in central Sweden, Högbo near Sandviken and Smögen in western Sweden, as well as the Valbo distillery.

In the coming years, the company will also offer its whiskys and whisky experiences outside the Nordic region.

"As part of our continued growth, we are also creating a dedicated role for Sweden's first whiskey CFO," said Dandarell.

The company had sales of about 100 million kronor ($15.44 million) last year and 45 employees, according to newspaper Dagens Industri on Monday.

The goal is to triple whiskey production and Dandarell hopes to raise several dozen million kronor from the offering, the report said

Dear Friends,

Since we announced our decision last week to reduce the alcohol content (ABV) of Maker’s Mark in response to supply constraints, we have heard many concerns and questions from our ambassadors and brand fans. We’re humbled by your overwhelming response and passion for Maker’s Mark. While we thought we were doing what’s right, this is your brand – and you tol...d us in large numbers to change our decision.

You spoke. We listened. And we’re sincerely sorry we let you down.

So effective immediately, we are reversing our decision to lower the ABV of Maker’s Mark, and resuming production at 45% alcohol by volume (90 proof). Just like we’ve made it since the very beginning.

The unanticipated dramatic growth rate of Maker’s Mark is a good problem to have, and we appreciate some of you telling us you’d even put up with occasional shortages. We promise we'll deal with them as best we can, as we work to expand capacity at the distillery.

Your trust, loyalty and passion are what’s most important. We realize we can’t lose sight of that. Thanks for your honesty and for reminding us what makes Maker’s Mark, and its fans, so special.

We’ll set about getting back to bottling the handcrafted bourbon that our father/grandfather, Bill Samuels, Sr. created. Same recipe. Same production process. Same product.

As always, we will continue to let you know first about developments at the distillery. In the meantime please keep telling us what’s on your mind and come down and visit us at the distillery. It means a lot to us.

Sincerely,

Rob Samuels Bill Samuels, Jr

Chief Operating Officer Chairman Emeritus

Λίγη υπομονή να ωριμάσει !!! :)

http://www.glenfiddich.com/latest/recent-news/2012/for-one-day-only-christmas-spirit-casked/

FOR ONE DAY ONLY: CHRISTMAS SPIRIT CASKED

5 February 2013

Glenfiddich marks its 125th anniversary with a unique collectors edition

25th December 2012, Dufftown: On Christmas Day 1887 William Grant, the founder of Glenfiddich, realised his lifelong ambition to create the best dram in the valley when the first drops of whisky flowed from stills in the distillery he and his family had toiled for a year to build. To celebrate this pioneering achievement, and 125 years of uninterrupted, award-winning whisky production, Glenfiddich will cask every drop of whisky distilled on Christmas Day 2012 to create the ultimate, limited edition Christmas Spirit of the future.

The Christmas Day whisky will be stored and left to mature for at least 20 years. Malt Master Brian Kinsman will then decide if the Christmas Spirit has reached its full potential, when it will be released as a limited edition.

Christmas Day 2012 marks a very special birthday for Glenfiddich, so we were inspired to create something unique said Mr Kinsman. Casking this Christmas Day whisky means that in twenty years time, if we are lucky and the cask matures as it should, we will have created a limited edition infused with the pioneering spirit of our founding father, William Grant.

Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt whisky distilleries in Scotland which is independently owned and this special occasion will be marked on Christmas Day when the fifth and sixth generations of the Grant family will be on hand to fill the first drops of the Christmas spirit into casks.

Just 125 casks of Glenfiddich Christmas Spirit will be laid down in one of the stone built warehouses at the distillery and matured. Here, they will be patiently watched over by Glenfiddich Malt Master until the whisky is declared ready for bottling. Once the angels have taken their share, the bottles will be available to buy some time after 2032.

Glenmorangie releases 50 rare bottles of The Glenmorangie 1963, with a toast to Lamborghini, born in 1963, on its 50th anniversary

Since 1843, Glenmorangie has been on a journey as an industry pioneer. In 2013, Glenmorangie celebrates The Glenmorangie 1963 by re-releasing 50 bottles of this rare single malt scotch whisky. The Glenmorangie 1963 is not only a sublime sensory experience but the pioneer of extra maturation for the whisky industry. Born in 1963, 2013 also marks Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary as the manufacturer of some of the world’s most sought after supercars, ‘100 years of innovation in half the time’. To celebrate these milestones, Glenmorangie and Lamborghini shared in a breath-taking and picturesque journey on 24 July 2013 through the West Highlands in Scotland, finishing the journey at Glenmorangie House where a dinner was held with a tasting of The Glenmorangie 1963 with Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's celebrated Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks.

Half a century has passed since the 1963 whisky was distilled and then released to the world in 1987 as the first ever extra matured single malt scotch. Since 1963, Glenmorangie has continued on a journey of craftsmanship, creativity and passion first started in 1843, using this inspiration of the past to shape future whisky creations, while Lamborghini has pioneered technology and Italian craftsmanship to become the benchmark for high performance and luxurious super sports cars. In contrast, the outstanding natural beauty, landscapes and biodiversity of the West Highlands, remains largely untouched by time.

The journey started with a succession of Lamborghini’s dynamic and elegant super sports cars, including the V12 flagship Lamborghini Aventador Roadster LP 700-4, launched this year, and a range of V10 Lamborghini Gallardo models. Drivers traversed some of Scotland’s most famous destinations: stunning Loch Lomond, mysterious Loch Ness and the beautifully preserved Fort William. The drive showcased the richness of the Scottish countryside and scenery, ending at Glenmorangie House.

There, to mark this anniversary, Dr Bill Lumsden, held an exclusive tasting of The Glenmorangie 1963, after which Paul Skipworth, President and Managing Director of Glenmorangie, presented the first of the

re-released 50 bottles to Giorgio Sanna, chief test driver from Automobili Lamborghini’s Research & Development department, as a gift on Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary.

“Glenmorangie recognises innovators who share our pioneering spirit,” said Paul Skipworth.

This joint celebration not only marks a 50 year journey for Lamborghini and Glemorangie as industry pioneers, but their commitment to an unnecessarily well-made future.

Glenmorangie 1963:

Distilled in 1963 and originally released in 1987, The Glenmorangie 1963 was the first-ever bottling of Glenmorangie to be released from a single year. In addition, it is the earliest known commercial bottling

of a whisky that has been ‘wood finished’ – or matured in an oak cast – and subsequently transferred to another cask that had previously contained an exquisite wine or richly-flavoured spirit, to provide an dditional, subtle range of flavour to complement the signature character of the whisky. In May 1987, 6,000 bottles were released at prestigious retailers, such as Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason and at legendary bars, such as London’ Claridges. Critics and connoisseurs greeted the release with applause. Today, the age and spirit of this revolutionary liquid remains intact. With the blessing of Dr Bill Lumsden, the whisky has been decanted into bottles reminiscent of the original shape. Each bottle is labelled with .925 silver and individually encased in at ‘Time Capsule’ leather-strapped box, numbered 1-50 for release in 2013.

Good News – and Bad – for Mortlach lovers

(από το whiskyadvocate.com)

author-buxton.jpg

There is good news for lovers of Mortlach the distinctive, near-triple distilled Speyside single malt, renowned for its meaty full flavor, with the announcement by Diageo of four new expressions. And, I fear, bad.

Due to be available mid-2014 in global markets, the range comprises Rare Old (43.4%, no age statement); Special Strength (49%, no age statement, non-chill filtered, Travel Retail exclusive); 18 Years Old and 25 Years Old (both 43.4%). Packaging details and prices have yet to be finalized, but I understand that the ‘new’ Mortlach will be positioned as a luxury brand, with the entry level Rare Old priced alongside Johnnie Walker Platinum, and other expressions higher still.

So the good news is tempered with a wealth warning, and the further disappointing

news that stocks of the current 16 Years Old Flora & Fauna expression will not be replaced; it has effectively been withdrawn. If this is a favorite, better lay in a bottle or two!

Mortlach-Stillhouse-2-221x300.jpg

Current stillhouse

The move has been three years in the planning and follows the welcome announcement that production of Mortlach is to double beginning November 2015, with the opening of a new, purpose-built facility that replicates in every detail the current distillery, a process that a Diageo spokesman described as “idiosyncratic, not state of the art.” Investment in the new plant exceeds £30 million ($48.5 million).

Diageo’s Dr. Nicholas Morgan, head of whisky outreach, described the move as the company’s most significant in single malt in the past decade, claiming that the new Mortlach brand will “define luxury for single malt [and] become the next great luxury brand.” Though specific competitors were not identified, this suggests that Diageo have category leaders Glenlivet and Macallan very much in their sights.

Based on a limited tasting of the new expressions, the distinctive meaty, sulfur-influenced taste of Mortlach, with heavy sherry notes, has been evolved to a more elegant and refined style, without compromising the signature power and weight beloved of fans.

These are complex, multi-layered whiskies with a considerable depth of flavor. While the beefy note has been muted (think roast pork and BBQ juices), the fruit and spice impact has been dialed up through a different balance of casks. Rare Old and Special Strength illustrate this in fascinating detail, being basically the same cask mix but presented at different strengths to draw out varying facets of spirit character. At 25 Years Old, Mortlach offers a dense, layered and extraordinarily rich taste that demands contemplation.

While lamenting the loss of the Flora & Fauna expressions, Mortlach drinkers will find much to enjoy in the new range, which will be available more readily, albeit at higher prices. Further details of the range will be announced in February next year with the products in market from the early summer.

To Laphroaig εορτάζει φέτος τα 200 χρόνια του και έστειλε στα μέλη των Friends of Laphroaig το παρακάτω:

It's 2015 and of course that means its Laphroaig's 200th Anniversary! We have a host of celebrations planned around the world – let me share some of those festivities we have planned...

I am delighted to announce that we will be releasing a special edition anniversary whisky that is very close to many of your hearts, Laphroaig's much loved (and missed) 15 year old. We have had literally thousands of our friend’s asking if this could be the Anniversary special edition, and naturally we listened.

The first 2,500 bottles have been made available to The Friends of Laphroaig via your online shop (only one per order I am afraid) from 2nd March until end of stock. You can buy it here now.

In other news, stay tuned for further instalments of our “Opinions Welcome” campaign. We are showcasing the most witty, entertaining and innovative opinions that lovers and haters alike share with us on a daily basis. Whats more, you may even see me pop up in a cameo role.

We love hearing your thoughts and this year will be rewarding the 200 most creative opinions with the opportunity to not only have your opinion permanently displayed at the distillery but Vicky and I will personally be selecting 10 of you plus a guest to join us in Islay in September to attend Laphroaig Live. Watch out for more information on our 200 Opinions Wanted competition, coming very soon. #opinionswelcome

Keep in touch. There is lots going on this year so expect to hear from me shortly with more exciting birthday plans.

Slàinte,

John Campbell
